SAP has become a sought after certification that is in high demand in the industry with most of the Indian firms like Reliance, TATA, Wipro etc. are transforming their systems to ERP. There are ample jobs opportunities available in SAP that can be broadly categorized under the following heads:

  1. Functional

The functional role involves specialization in the business processes that includes Financial, Controlling, Human Resources, Materials Management, Production Planning, etc. A functional role also goes by the names “configure or configurator”. Generally business undergraduates or people from the MBA background with additional certifications such as CPA or CPIM are perfect fit for the role. The role demands strong knowledge of the business operations along with good social, written and oral skills.

The job responsibilities encompass conducting workshops to accumulate requirements, step up the decision making process and transform the agreement into SAP configuration. Scripting functional specs and design logics are the additional tasks.

  1. Business Intelligence

The BI experts are involved in raw data conversion to reports, graphics and dashboards facilitating the work for data analytics. Known as data modeler or report specialist they analyze the request owner’s requirements, transform functional requirements into technical ones and uses various tools to generate reports, summaries or other accounts. Data modeling certifications along with business degrees are helpful for this role. Individual with a programming experience becomes an asset. An analytical mind with strong written skill is the perfect fit.

  1. Development (Technical)

They are the developers who use their programming knowledge and experience to stuff the gaps in business processes. They aid in creation of workflows, reports, interfaces, forms, conversions and enhancements. Conversion is a broad part of implementation that persists post go-live. The technical developer converts functional specifications into technical specifications and technical specifications into code. A high degree of programming knowledge is required to shine in this field.

  1. Basis(Technical)

SAP Basis system admins looks after the system administration that includes installation, designing system infrastructure, networking, back-up and recovery of the whole SAP system. An undergraduate with a degree in operating system along with database certifications are appropriate for this role. These SAP admin often known as Net Weaver System Administrator collect technical requirements, analyse them to create options that helpsin the decision making process ultimately converting them to high tech business decisions fusing them into SAP infrastructure. Apart from strong written and oral skills, they require troubleshooting skills to go deeper into the problem.

  1. Security (Technical)

They are the security or information assurance specialists who are involved in designing, creating and administering the security of the users. They possess good interview skills along with strong oral and written skills. An operating system or Database user administration certification along with your graduate degree will be necessary for this course or a sufficient experience in the same field will be beneficial.

Their job responsibilities involve accumulation of security essentials, segregation of design duties and convert security resolutions into SAP security configuration.

  1. Project Manager

A project manager or team lead is responsible for managing the integral elements of a project that takes into account the scope, cost, risk, quality, schedule, resources and communications. Basically the project manager organizes and attends extensive number of meetings and does everything that keeps the project moving taking proper care of the budget.

A strong knowledge of project management theories and practices are desired for this role.

  1. Tester

Testers or quality control professionals are responsible for testing the processes manually or through automation. They prepare reports on their tests and analysis coordinating the resolution of the issues with the required configurers or developers. Post reporting they are also responsible for monitoring the test results.

  1. Trainer

The SAP training professionals are responsible for constructing and designing the training materials. These training materials are necessary to train individuals before the environment goes live. They need to work with the useful support across various processes to assess and design the training materials, conduct training and exercises.
